The church which met at Hope Chapel was sadly dissolved in January 2019, when the last service was held. It seemed like the end, as for so many churches in the UK which have closed their doors in recent years. The buildings, including the chapel and the attached parson’s house were sold shortly afterwards. The parson’s house has subsequently been converted into apartments, but no use could be found for the chapel itself. In the wonderful Providence of God, this Charity was formed in the summer of 2022 with the purpose of being able to purchase the chapel back. This took place in the autumn of 2022. The prayerful desire of those involved are to restore and reopen this magnificent historic building for the benefit of the local community, and to the glory of God. In brief, the vision of the Rochdale Hope Chapel Heritage Centre is to seek to make known to the people of Rochdale and the wider area the wonderful testimony of God’s free grace in His dealings with this church and congregation down through it’s history of more than 200 years, since it’s commencement in 1810, and the social significance of Hope Chapel for the town of Rochdale. Furthermore, we desire that Hope Chapel will be a place where many will also experience the same wonders of God’s free grace as those in the past. A place where the hopeless and the helpless find a true and enduring hope. Because the message that has been proclaimed for more than 200 years at Hope Chapel is just as relevant today as it was in 1810. Many people imagine that the message of the Bible is irrelevant to them. But the testimony of many whose lives were transformed by the knowledge of salvation in Christ through the ministry of God’s servants in Hope Chapel speaks for itself! Many who at first hated the preaching of law and gospel were brought to love it and to live and die for it.
